HEAL YOUR BODY, HEAL YOUR BRAIN

One of the things that has helped me with my depression/anxiety is a book that I was introduced to in 2009, called The UltraMind Solution, by Mark Hyman, M.D. It lays out, in detail, ways to defeat depression, overcome anxiety, and sharpen your mind through healing your body first. I found it so helpful, that I read it every year to refresh my memory and get me back on track (when I inevitably fall back into bad habits). I totally recommend this book!

The book explains the seven keys to wellness – How imbalances in the basic core systems of the body explain the imbalances in the brain.

· Nutrition

· Hormones

· Immune function

· Digestion

· Detoxification

· Energy metabolism

· Mind-body

It gives a how-to, step-by-step program to fix your brain. The heart of the plan is a comprehensive diet and lifestyle change that consists of four basic components:

A healthy eating plan designed to help you optimize your brain.

Basic supplements you need to take to maintain balance and enhance your brain chemistry.

Lifestyle changes, including exercise, relaxation, sleep, and “brain” or mental exercises.

Living clean and green to reduce your

exposure to environmental toxins and to support a sustainable future for us all.

The program is a six-week plan to learn how to balance the seven keys to wellness.

It also comes with a companion guide that you can download for free at https://drhyman.com/downloads/UltraMindCompanionGuide.pdf. (FYI, the link has been updated since the book was published. This is the new link.) It’s full of quizzes, recipes, tips and techniques to make your journey easier.

Hope this helps you as much as it has helped me. During the pandemic, I've been eating more comfort food, not exercising like I should and putting on some weight. I decided to do the Ultramind program this month, and have asked my husband to do it with me. I'll show you our progress. I'm hoping I'll get this lifestyle change to stick this time. First day is getting your kitchen ready for the next six weeks.
